As of February 11th, 2015, Tuffy’s Pet Foods, Inc. has issued a full recall of their Nutrisca Dry Dog Food, in the Chicken and Chick Pea Recipe. The recall was necessary due to a possible Salmonella bacteria contamination. The product was distributed nationwide, in 4 pound bags with the UPC code of 8 84244 12495 7.
Though official reports of illness due to this product have been received, the company urges people to be cautious. Salmonella is a threat to both humans and animals, mainly risking young children, the elderly, pregnant women, or those with weak immune systems. Take caution by washing hands frequently, and disinfecting anything came in contact with the product.
Symptoms of salmonella bacteria include: lethargy, diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramping, vomiting, decrease of appetite, abdominal pain, and can incur other serious results such as arthritis, and urinary tract symptoms.
